REFLECTIONS

Experiences

Throughout the course of Advanced Typography, I've experienced many challenges as I have expected from the previous Typography module where I also found it quite challenging. Though, by experiencing these challenges I was able to learn from them and become more aware of my flaws as an aspiring graphic designer. Other than that, I was able to have the opportunity to experience how to create an artwork that can resonate with a specific message that was needed to be conveyed. Although it was a difficult journey, I'm thankful to the lecturers for providing me with such experiences and patiently guiding me through it.

Observations

I observed that there are limitless ways in which we can combine artwork and text together. Though, I realised that what mattered most was how well can they communicate together to form a well delivered message to the audience. Hence, with that, there are limitless ways in which we can create misunderstandings through our creations as designers. I feel that I need to become a better communicator in terms of becoming more fluent in the visual language in order to improve my work further. Following this, I also observed many creative outcomes from my peers that inspired me hugely and further motivated me to have a more expressive and artistic approach to my work. I'm very grateful to be able this observe this as I have learned from it greatly.

Findings

I found that over the course of my final project, I realised how experimental we can actually be with typography. From the previous module, I have always felt restricted while doing my work as there were many specific instructions given. Though I understood why it was done that way, as it was supposed to introduce us to the basics of typography. Due to this, Advanced Typography was a very interesting module where we were able to explore and be creative with our final projects. I found myself really enjoying this aspect of the module, especially with the finding type exercise where we extracted potential alphabets from the shapes we can find within an image. I'm grateful that I was able to experience this side of typography.
