FINAL PROJECT
Initial inspiration for this project:
'Body Type' by Zouheir Nsiri
Initially, I was inspired by Nsiri's work and I wanted to do my project based on his 'Body Type' work where modular and monospaced typography was created by using a human body. I was interested in this as the type was done well even with the limitations of the human body being used. I thought I can relate this type with the concept of body image and address the concern towards the modern society's views on body image.
Chosen concept - main inspiration for this project:

However, I came across another typography poster where buildings were used with the similar concept of creating modular, monospaced typography. Here, I realised that I can base my project on this where I can address the issue on the decrease in cultural appreciation within Malaysia amongst the youth. As an international student, I noticed that most local peers aren't necessarily enthusiastic towards their culture and some also aren't knowledgable of the places that are supposed to well represent Malaysia as a country. With this, I wanted to include iconic, cultural places that represent Malaysian culture through the use of these places' buildings.
Buildings that was included:
1. Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad
2. Istana Budaya
3. Kuala Lumpur Tower
4. OCBC
5. Seri Menati Old Palace
6. Twin Tower
7. Ipoh Railway Station
I wanted to personally go to these locations to take photos of the buildings. However, I knew it was not time efficient to do that as I have limited time with this project as well as other projects. Hence, I used images that I found online. However, I made sure that I manipulated the photos enough due to copyright concerns.
My progress:

I've observed that most of my peers decided to do their final projects on trying to improve on existing typefaces. Otherwise, I've perceived a range of experimental typographic projects for this project as inspiration. There were so many that were very interesting and helpful in giving me potential ideas of what can be done.
I found that it was very difficult to find a way to go visit these specific places and take my own photos of the buildings. Hence, I extracted the used images through online sources. Though, I made sure that I manipulated the photos enough to avoid copyright. Other than that, I found that it was very interesting to try and come up with the potential outcomes for this project. I enjoyed experimenting with the images and I wished that I had more time to further solidify my work.
After receiving feedback:
Mr Vinod told me to increase the brightness and contrast of the images and to include the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) logo underneath my poster. For the booklet, Mr Vinod told me to include the 'author' caption on the front cover.

REFLECTION:
EXPERIENCE:
I've experience a lot of challenge in terms of finding out what I truly wanted to do for the final project. I was conflicted whether I should try to stick with my first initial idea where I would do a typeface revolving around body image. Though, I realised that I would have nothing to add on to Nsiri's work.
