Project 1: Landing Page Design

For this project, we were assigned to create landing page for either our favourite singer, band or sports team.

I chose to design a landing page for my favourite singer, Mac DeMarco. My main aim is to create a better landing page compared to his own website's landing page in terms of layout and the use of imagery such as the background image.

FEEDBACK

Week 3:

When I first showed my progress to Mr. Shamsul, I only could show him the top half of my landing page. Previously, I had a concept where there's a tab for each category beneath the main image of the landing page. However, Mr. Shamsul suggested to change it as it would realistically be difficult to implement that type of layout into an actual website.

Week 4:

Mr. Shamsul suggested to remove the 'next' button that I previously had on the "call of action"  where there's a pop up that allows users to have the option to register for the newsletter. He said the button was not necessary as users would naturally hit the 'enter' button once they've completed filling in their details if they do wish to sign up for the newsletter.

REFLECTION

Experiences

Week 3:

I experienced a momentary phase where I was not sure whether I would be removing most of Mac DeMarco's personal style if I were to completely change everything when comparing his existing landing page to what I envisioned would be an ideal landing page for his website.

Week 4:

I felt that I should keep certain quirky aspects that I could find within his whole website in regards to ensuring that I wouldn't completely get rid of Mac DeMarco's personal style as the website is served towards people who are interested in DeMarco. Hence, the website is supposed to be a reflection of him as a singer and a person. With this in mind, I tried to add fun illustrations on the main image of the landing page that would appear when users decide to click on a category.

Observations

Week 3:

As I went through many websites that were made for musicians, I discovered that most of them had simple layouts that mostly uses big images that showcased the musician either performing or an image that reflected their most recent album. I decided to incorporate this into my design.

Week 4:

I noticed that it was starting to become more clear to me as to what I needed to do in terms of finding out what I should include within the landing page as I was able to refer to Mac DeMarco's website.

Findings

Week 3:

I found that it was very enjoyable to design a website layout based on an artist of my interest. Due to this, I found myself very interested in the process of collecting the data for the content that will be presented in my layout.

Week 4:

By the time I was finished with this project, I noticed that I was quite interested in web design, specifically on designing the layout itself.  Hence, I found myself enjoying this module a lot.
